TRILOQUIST

REVIEW

When going to watch a horror movie one would assume either a dark grotesque picture with amazing blood effects or a cheesy humorous depiction of a scary idea. Seldom does a horror movie have both and successfully gets away with it. The thought of a dummy coming to life and causing terror wherever it goes is a previously used angle with many cheesy products, but triloquist avoids the other movies of this class with a great young talent that stole the movie…even over dummy. The young girl, Angelica, take her mute brother and their seemingly alive dummy on the road to Vegas. Their diabolical journey never got on a straight and serious path but the ambiguity and random tangents made the movie an enjoyable experience. With the aid of Angelica’s character, the artful and scenic movie shots really saved the movie in my eyes. When your idea lacks complete originality, the slack can be made up with producing that idea into a creatively executed movie. Throw an odd ball cast in the mix and you have Triloquist.

Synopsis

In a seedy Hollywood motel, a down-and-out ventriloquist overdoses in front of her son and daughter, scarring them for life. Eighteen years later, the son, who has not spoken a word since his mother’s suicide, and daughter, depart on a road trip to Las Vegas. Still haunted by their childhood memories, they are unable to fulfill their mother’s dying wishes to uphold the family bloodline and become great ventriloquists. Entranced by the dummy’s commands, the long journey plunges them further and further into darkness as they begin a murderous rampage across the desert.
